On October 28, the groundbreaking ceremony for Haitai Solar’s Kangbao–Caofeidian long-distance hydrogen transmission pipeline project was successfully held in Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou. As an important component of China’s national hydrogen transmission backbone network, the project spans 18 counties across three cities. Once completed, it will effectively connect the green hydrogen supply chain in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, providing strong support for regional green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green methanol industrial clusters, and further advancing the green transformation of the regional energy structure.

At the ceremony, project representatives introduced the pipeline’s engineering overview, construction plan, and future development vision. Upon completion, the project will replace approximately 4.81 million tons of standard coal annually and reduce 9.16 million tons of CO₂ emissions—an ecological benefit equivalent to planting 650 million trees. It will also stimulate the growth of related industries such as steel, pipeline manufacturing, and logistics, while promoting synergy in upstream and downstream technologies including hydrogen production, storage, and energy storage. The project effectively addresses the geographical mismatch between “hydrogen production sites” and “consumption markets,” providing the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region with a stable and clean hydrogen supply and robust infrastructure. It will help establish the region as a hub for hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol industries, contributing to China’s “dual carbon” goals. In addition, the project holds potential for integration with external markets and international cooperation, paving the way for new channels of energy collaboration and green trade, and laying a solid foundation for China’s hydrogen industry to “go global.”

The Proposals of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development call for the cultivation of emerging pillar industries. As a strategically emerging sector, hydrogen energy is poised to become a new engine of economic growth. The Kangbao–Caofeidian hydrogen transmission pipeline project aligns closely with national policy direction, serving as a “Hebei Model” that is replicable and scalable nationwide, and providing valuable experience for the development of China’s hydrogen infrastructure network. Haitai Solar will continue to deepen its commitment to the hydrogen energy sector, accelerating technological innovation and large-scale applications to inject lasting momentum into China’s transition toward green and low-carbon energy.
